Bluegill Beasts!

At MGS our main goal is to train clients well enough that they can go out on their own and catch fish with ease! This is the focus of our Bluegill Beasts Tour, teaching skills that any fisherman of any age can carry with them!

This tour is location flexible. We have several home ponds at our disposal, including Brushy Creek in Round Rock, TX, Mustang Creek in Waxahachie, TX, and Turtle Creek in Dallas, TX. We are also willing to meet you at waters within your Texas hometown and equip you with tools that will help you catch fish no matter where you go!

Species We Target

The beauty of the techniques and tackle we teach is that hundreds of unique species can be caught with these methods! Here are some of the species we catch and information about them.

Largemouth Bass

Micropterus nigricans are found on almost every continent except Australia and Antarctica. They are especially popular sport fish in Japan and in their native waters of North America. They are found in every state including Hawaii and are a popular tournament fish that can exceed 20lb in weight!

They use rapid suction of water through their gills and mouth to draw prey in, then crush the food with their unique throat structure.
This movement produces a distinct cue for fishermen in the form of a "thump, thump-thump" pull felt on the fishing rod tip.

These fish are very easy to catch but fight ferociously with intense head shaking and lunging out of the water, which can often dislodge the hook or break the line. Catching them is an adrenaline rush, and we can't wait to get you on some!

Lepomis

The Lepomis genus of fish are commonly known as sunfish, often incorrectly called "perch."

There are many incredible species that we can target here on our Texas tours, including Bluegill, Green Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, Longear Sunfish, Redbreast Sunfish, and Warmouth.

Each species has its own unique abilities and quirks that we will explore heavily during our time together!

Sunfish are fish that remain fun to catch no matter how many years or thousands of fish you have under your belt.

Rio Grande Cichlid

The Rio Grande Cichlid (Herichthys cyanoguttatus, say that ten times fast!) is one of the craziest fish available for catch in Texas waters. It is the ONLY native cichlid fish in all of the US and Canada.

This fish is stunningly beautiful sporting a blue/grey body with blue/white spots, blood-orange eyes, and often purple-brown teeth!

These fish can get quite large for fish of their caliber, exceeding 10 inches in length! Their sharp but tiny conical teeth are used for crushing water bugs and crustaceans.

We typically target these in early spring for the best chance of success, but depending on water conditions we will always give it a shot! They are beautiful fish that fight well and we would love to share them with you!
